Measure for Measure

Narcissus and Echo

David Marton, an iconoclastic, major director of the European operatic landscape, shines a light on the neuroses of our time with his typical creative freedom.

For this production, based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, David Marton appropriates the figures of Narcissus and the nymph Echo. He moves away from the mythological narrative to examine the tumultuous relationships between image and sound, probing the themes of “incommunication”, mental confinement, and the timeless loneliness of being. He teams up with five actor-musicians who perform a colourful score with baroque resonances.
